1) HP102L18-60WB— Pressure-Side Filter Element

What it is

A disposable filter element mounted on the pressure line (between pump and valves). The housing is a heavy cast-steel head with SAE/MS threaded ports, and it is rated for much higher pressure than a return filter.

• HP102 = pressure filter housing family

  
  

• L18 = size/length class (defines OD and element length)

  
  

• 60 = bypass/performance class (these units commonly use a ~3–3.5 bar bypass — when ΔP is too high, oil goes around the element unfiltered)

Safety point (important)

Because this sits on the pressure leg, trapped pressure is dangerous:

• Close any upstream isolation if fitted

  
  

• Crack the vent/bleed slowly until the gauge reads zero before touching anything

  
  

Replacement steps

1. Isolate → bleed slowly until pressure = 0 and no more hissing.

   
   

2. Support the bowl — pressure hardware is heavy; don’t let it hang on the piping.

   
   

3. Loosen the wing-bolt yoke → swing it clear → lift the bowl straight.

   
   

4. Pull the element straight out → check bowl bottom for bright metal shavings (pump/valve wear signal).

   
   

5. Wipe seal lands → thin film of clean hydraulic oil on the O-ring (no grease).

   
   

6. Seat element square on the centre tube → swing yoke back → snug wing-bolt to metal contact + a small final tighten (don’t over-tighten).

   
   

7. Close vent → bring pressure up gradually → watch closely for leaks before walking away.

   
   

Procurement wording (safe)

HP102L18-60WB — Element for HP102 pressure housing — supply exact match confirmed against the head nameplate model / serial. Require supplier to state OD / length / centre bore / seal compound before delivery. No “same-size” substitute.

2) HP321-12— Return-Line Filter Element (GE Machine Tag)

What it is

A return-line filter element (pipe-mounted canister, clamp-band bowl, flow arrow on the head). It protects tank cleanliness after oil has done its work.

• HP321 = return-line housing family

  
  

• 12 = size/length index (fixes OD / height / centre-tube)

  
  

• Seal compound is normally NBR (black/grey) unless the nameplate calls out Viton

  
  

The trailing GE here is not part of the element code — it is a machine/owner tag telling Stores which unit this position belongs to (the hydraulic power unit supplied by / labelled for GE).

Replacement steps

1. Stop pump → open vent/bleed until pressure = 0.

   
   

2. Support bowl → release clamp band → lift element straight out.

   
   

3. Check for bright metal shavings (wear sign).

   
   

4. Thin oil on O-ring → seat square on centre tube → close vent → ΔP indicator green, no seep.

HP321-12 — Element for HP321 return housing — fit only to the housing model on the head nameplate. State OD / length / centre bore / seal (NBR unless nameplate says Viton) when ordering. Write equipment tag GE on the BOM line so Stores know which machine.

One rule that covers both

Vent/bleed until the gauge is zero — pressure-side (HP102) because it can hurt you, return-side (HP321) because it can still spray you. After that, the rest is just: seat square, clean O-ring, tighten evenly, watch for leaks.
