What to check before fitting

• Read the filter head nameplate near the pipe ports: it should show the FC-5900 family model, pressure rating, port size, and flow arrow.

• Seal colour: most FC-5900-12 units run NBR (black/dark grey). If your old seal is brown/red (Viton), stop and confirm the fluid/temperature requirement before using a different seal type.

  
  

Replacement steps

1. Stop pump → open vent/bleed until pressure reads zero.

   
   

2. Support the bowl — don’t let it hang on piping.

   
   

3. Release clamp band → lift element straight out (no prying).

   
   

4. Check bowl bottom for bright metal shavings (pump/gear wear warning).

   
   

5. Wipe sealing face → thin film of clean hydraulic oil on the O-ring (nothing else).

   
   

6. Seat element square on the centre support tube → close vent slowly → ΔP indicator green, no seep.

2) HC628-01-GWB— Coalescer / Gas-Liquid Separation Cartridge

What it is

A coalescing/separation cartridge (often used on oil-mist, fuel gas, or lube-oil dehydration/polishing loops).

Letters like GWB in this family usually describe end-cap/length style (G) + seal material (WB = commonly Buna-N/NBR unless otherwise specified) — but only the housing nameplate proves it.

What to check before fitting

• Read the housing nameplate/tag: model, pressure/temperature limits, and which fluid stream it handles (oil-mist / gas / fuel-polishing / lube bypass loop).

  
  

• Measure the old cartridge if possible: OD / overall length / centre-hole — and note the end-cap style (flange lip, threaded centre, or bail handle).

  
  

• Confirm the seal colour matches what the system is designed for (black/grey vs brown/red).

  
  

Replacement steps

1. Isolate / depressurize the vessel or filter housing (coalescers can hold trapped pressure — crack the vent slowly).

   
   

2. Open the closure → withdraw the cartridge straight, avoiding damage to the delicate outer sock/media wrap.

   
   

3. Inspect the housing interior for sludge/water pooling (tells you if the separator stage is overloaded).

   
   

4. Light film of correct fluid on the O-ring/gasket → seat square → re-close → vent correctly.

   
   

5. Restart gradually and watch for abnormal pressure drop or liquid carry-over downstream.
