Filter Elements — Quick Reference (English)

1) What These Are (Plain English)

Both are disposable pleated filter elements used inside pipe-mounted return-line canisters (the type with a flow arrow stamped on the head and a clamp-band bowl).

• The number before the dash (830 / 839) defines the size/flow class, which fixes the outer diameter, height, and centre-tube dimensions.

  
  

• -00 means the standard configuration (no drain cock/heater/magnet unless your specific head casting has them).

  
  

• C at the end means the seal compound is NBR — the O-ring will be black or dark grey, suitable for mineral hydraulic oil (HLP/HM).

  
  

⚠️ 830 and 839 are different size classes. Even if the element “looks close,” the seal lands and centre locator differ. Never swap 830 ↔ 839.

2) What You Must Check Before Installation

On the filter head (near the inlet/outlet ports), read the metal nameplate:

• It should show the model containing DM830… or DM839…

  
  

• Pressure rating (bar / MPa)

  
  

• Port size (thread or flange)

  
  

• FLOW ARROW — oil must enter where the arrow says; installing the bowl backwards defeats filtration

  
  

On the old element (once it’s out):

• Confirm overall height / outer diameter roughly matches the new one (ruler is enough)

  
  

• Confirm the O-ring colour is black/grey (NBR).

  If it is brown/red, someone previously fitted a Viton version — in that case, ask maintenance engineering before fitting a “C” (NBR) part.

  
  

3) Replacement Steps (Field-Safe Sequence)

1. Stop pump → open vent/bleed until pressure reads zero.

   
   

2. Support the bowl so it does not hang by the piping.

   
   

3. Release the clamp band → remove the bowl → pull the element straight out (no prying against the pleats).

   
   

4. Check the bottom of the bowl for bright metal shavings (pump/gear wear warning).

   
   

5. Wipe sealing surfaces clean → apply a thin film of clean hydraulic oil to the O-ring (no grease, no sealant).

   
   

6. Seat the new element squarely onto the centre support tube until it locates fully.

   
   

7. Reassemble → tighten the clamp evenly → close vent slowly.

   
   

8. Restart → confirm no leaks and that the ΔP indicator is green.

   
   

4) Procurement — What to Write (No Guessing Allowed)

• DM830-00-C

  → Element for DM830 housing only (not DM839). Supply exact fit: confirm OD / height / centre bore / seal groove against the head nameplate before delivery.

  
  

• DM839-00-C

  → Element for DM839 housing only (not DM830). Same rule as above.

Field Rule to Remember

If the nameplate is painted over and you can’t read it, use the ruler: measure the old element’s height & OD, write those numbers on the BOM line, and keep the two spares strictly separated by size. That alone prevents 99% of “wrong element” mistakes.
