1) HT-718-00-CRN— Return-Line Canister Element

What it is

A disposable pleated element installed inside a pipe-mounted return canister (clamp-band bowl, flow arrow on the head). Oil passes through the pleats from outside, clean oil exits the centre.

• The “00” normally means standard configuration for this head (no extra drain cock/heater/magnet unless your specific casting already has them).

  
  

• The “CRN” points to NBR-type seals — the O-ring should be black or dark grey (mineral hydraulic oil duty).

  If the old seal is brown/red, stop and confirm the nameplate/fluid spec before using an NBR spare.

  
  

What to check before fitting

• Read the filter head nameplate near the ports: it should show the HT-718 model, pressure rating (bar), port size, and a flow arrow.

  
  

• Stand the old element upright with a ruler: confirm the new one matches overall height / outer diameter / centre-hole before it goes in.

  
  

• Make sure the flow arrow on the head points the right way in the piping — reversing it defeats filtration.

  
  

Replacement steps

1. Stop the pump. Open the vent/bleed on the head until pressure reads zero.

   
   

2. Support the bowl — don’t let it hang by the piping.

   
   

3. Release the clamp band → lift the element straight out (no prying against the pleats).

   
   

4. Check the bowl bottom for bright metal shavings (pump/gear wear warning).

   
   

5. Wipe sealing faces → thin film of clean hydraulic oil on the O-ring (no grease, no sealant).

   
   

6. Seat the element square on the centre support tube → close vent slowly → check for leaks and confirm the ΔP indicator is green.

   
   

Procurement wording (safe)

“HT-718-00-CRN — element for HT-718 housing only; confirm against the head nameplate model; require supplier to state OD / height / centre bore / seal compound before delivery — no ‘looks the same’ substitute.”

2) PD718-03-CN— Same Family / Different Length or Option

What it is

Another element that belongs to the 718-size family, but the “03” and “CN” tell you it is not identical to the “00-CRN” version:

• “03” usually indicates a different length / bypass setting / option package compared with “00”.

  
  

• “CN” again points to an NBR-type seal arrangement (black/dark grey).

  
  

Because those letters control length and bypass behaviour, you must keep them separate — they look similar but can cause wrong bypass timing or poor sealing if mixed.

What to check before fitting

• The head nameplate should still read a model consistent with the 718 family (HT-718 or PD-718 depending on your unit’s labelling style).

  
  

• Ruler-check height especially: if the new element is even slightly too long/short, the centre locator won’t seat and it can bypass unfiltered.

  
  

• O-ring colour must match: black/dark grey.

  
  

Replacement steps

Exactly the same sequence as above:

vent → support bowl → straight pull → inspect → clean → thin oil on O-ring → seat square → bleed → green & dry.

“PD718-03-CN — element for the 718-family housing shown on the head nameplate; confirm OD / height / centre bore / seal from our existing element before delivery; do not swap with HT-718-00-CRN just because ‘the box looks the same’.”

3) One-Line BOM (copy-paste)

Simple rule for crews

Keep the two boxes on the same shelf only if the labels are very clear.

The safest habit is: write the housing model on each lid, and — once — measure the old element with a ruler (just H / OD) and scribble those mm on the BOM line. After that, nobody can “accidentally” put a 03 where a 00 goes.
